Other thrillers directed by Sydney Pollack include ’Three Days of the Condor’, ’Absence of Malice’, ’the Firm’. The subject of ’the Interpeter’ is also topical, focusing on corruption in Africa and politics within the United Nations. So it has all the ingredients for a great film.
One piece of trivia about the film is that it is the first movie filmed with official permission (and almost unrestricted access) inside the United Nations in New York. The great Alfred Hitchcock was just one of the many directors who had been denied this request before. He had to resort to hidden cameras, a set and disguises to obtain the United Nations footage he used for ’North by Northwest’!
I look forward to seeing you at ’the Interpreter’.
All the best
